If you're tired of the same old sights, put a twist on your Disney World visit by staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This savannah-themed resort is the perfect retreat for nature lovers, with its wild menagerie and beautiful sprawling landscapes. Each room lets you enjoy breathtaking views and watch free-roaming wildlife - all with the same comfort and quality you've come to expect from Disney resorts.
A luxury zoo
The Animal Kingdom Lodge is home to fascinating creatures such as giraffes, zebras, wildebeests, antelopes, and exotic birds. Watch the wildlife up close from your room's private balcony, the in-house restaurants, or the cozy atrium lobby. A state-of-the-art barrier system keeps you safe while giving you excellent views. It's like living in a zoo, only with ten times more class.
The common guest area features a fire pit and glass walls with a full view of the Arusha Savannah. African artwork, masks, and sculptures can be found throughout the resort. Guests can gather round the fire throughout the day and listen to African folk stories. All the furnishings are crafted by skilled artisans, so each room is a genuine work of art. Artificial lighting is kept dim to give animals their normal sleep cycles and add to the African folk theme.
Rest and play
The recreational area includes a 11,000-square foot pool with a water slide, two Jacuzzi tubs, and a children's pool. The pool lies facing the Uzima Savannah, home to the famous flamingos and other exotic animals. If you want some time alone, let your kids play at the Hakuna Matata Playground, Simba's Clubhouse, or Pumbaa's Fun and Games Arcade. On your own, you can enjoy your favorite drink at the Uzima Springs bar, get a massage at the Zahanati spa, or work out at the free-use fitness center. Drop by the Zawadi Marketplace for discount souvenirs and African art pieces.
The Animal Kingdom Lodge has three unique restaurants and lounge. The Boma "Flavors of Africa" lets you sample regional dishes in a buffet setup, which includes exotic dishes and a children's menu. For guests on the go, Mara offers quick-service meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
For something more upscale, try Jiko, The Cooking Place. Jiko specializes in fresh cuisine and South African wines. Excellent service and an African themed venue make for a leisurely and interesting meal. Afterwards, you can relax with a drink at the Victoria Falls Lounge, one of the most intimate venues among Disney resorts. Remember to present your discount voucher before ordering at any of the restaurants.
Although closer to the Animal Kingdom theme park, the lodge's location won't keep you from exploring the rest of Disney World. Like the other Disney Resorts, it's just minutes away from the Disney World theme parks, as well as other attractions such as Pleasure Island, the Wide World of Sports, and the Disney Water Parks. You'll also enjoy the same discount and benefits as other packages.
